ECS, Computational Mechanics, ETC

October 1, 2024

It has been an incredibly eventful few months I have somehow survived. My role at DS has evolved in quite a favorable way, and my research is progressing very nicely (although, in some ways, the "real" work is just beginning). I am also finally published in a reputable journal with Professor Govindjee! The paper compares the common nonlinear thermoelastic models of Chadwick and Lu-Pister, and determines when the formulations are compatible. A bit pedantic, but useful; especially to anyone using a Chadwick formulation at low temperatures. Warning, non physical results are likely in this case!

Moreover, I had the pleasure of presenting some work I did at Dassault Systemes at the 245th meeting of the Electrochemical Society. This event was incredibly valuable and I met many intelligent people working on interesting things. My presentation was on material I have written about ad nauseum, so see my second blog post for more on that. I also saw a poster which inspired me to look into magnetic effects on the electrochemical response of batteries, which has been an incredibly exciting new direction for my research (and something almost entirely ignored in the literature). Contrary to my usual tendency to overshare, I will not divulge more details than that as I have some ideas that I think may be very, very promising and ground breaking.

Unrelated, I will try to post notes and blog posts more frequently from now on. It is a nice exercise in self expression and it is always enjoyable to type up my thoughts on more publicly accessible aspects of my research. I have quite a few little pieces that I could type up as posts; quite frankly the worst part is converting latex to HTML. Many, many more things have happened in my life from may until now, these are just the most immediate things I can think of to write here. More to come; see below for images from the ECS conference.
